Perry County JobSight Goes "On The Air" to Raise Awareness of One-Stop Services
[July 2002] EKCEP's Perry County JobSight hosted a live radio remote broadcast for two hours on July 1 as a part of its "JobSight Awareness Day" event. JobSight staff members, program participants, partner program administrators, and employers who have used JobSight services took turns speaking to the public about the many services available through the JobSight center. The broadcast was carried by WSGS-FM, the 100,000-watt radio station based in Hazard, KY. The live broadcast was the finale of the day-long event which was designed to raise public awareness of the one-stop's services. Throughout the day, staff members and satisfied customers emphasized the range of services that JobSight offers, with special attention devoted to the services available to employers and workers who have a job but would like to upgrade. People who are not familiar with JobSight sometimes assume that it is a only social service agency that only serves low-income job seekers. JobSight Awareness Day went a long way toward dispelling that narrow definition. "We want to let it be known that we don't only serve the underprivileged," said Jack Duff, manager of the Perry County JobSight. He added that JobSight also serves workers looking to advance their careers by moving up to a better job, workers who have lost a job, young workers just entering the job market, and others. "We want to help them all," Duff said. JobSight is also proud of its free services for employers. JobSight offers recruitment, employee screening, on-the-job training, and other important services to area businesses. Keila Young of American Woodmark spoke enthusiastically on the air about the important services that JobSight provided to help her company find, hire, and train workers for its new cabinet making plant near Hazard. About 150 potential customers visited the JobSight during the event, and many more listened to the broadcast. |
