True One-Stop Career Center Now Available in Perry County
[February 2011] True one-stop shopping will soon be available in Perry County for job seekers and employers looking for workforce services. On Wednesday, February 16, the Office of Employment and Training, Office of Vocational Rehabilitation, and other state services will leave their current location on High Street and relocate to the Perry County JobSight workforce center at 412 Roy Campbell Drive in Hazard. The state services will join the workforce programs already available at the JobSight, which include the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) programs, Adult Education, and the Community Service Block Grant Program offered through the LKLP Community Action Council. The workforce services for job seekers and employers at the JobSight include a wide variety of activities and services all aimed at helping people prepare for and find a job or a better job, while helping employers at the same time to train and find qualified employees. “Having all these services in together in a single location is an important step forward in providing the best workforce services to Eastern Kentuckians in the most convenient way possible,” said Jeff Whitehead, executive director of Eastern Kentucky C.E.P., Inc. (EKCEP), which administers the JobSight network. “This is a true realization of the ‘one-stop’ concept. Whatever workforce challenges an individual or a company might have, they should be able to find a solution through the Perry County JobSight,” Whitehead said. The JobSight is located in 25,000 square feet of the recently renovated building formerly occupied by Perry Manufacturing Co. The building has 300 parking spaces and an additional 25,000 square feet available for future expansions. “The Perry County JobSight is the first large, comprehensive center in EKCEP’s 23-county service region where so many staff will be in one place to help people get jobs and to help employers find qualified workers,” said Jennifer Bergman, EKCEP’s JobSight services director. “I can add that it’s been a real dream of mine, working with the EKCEP area one-stops since the very beginning – over 10 years. It’s so exciting to see it become a reality.” Jack Duff, manager of the Perry County JobSight, said the center is very happy to have all the Workforce Partners under one roof. “Now we can better serve the public by offering them convenient access to several services they’ll probably be using at the same time,” Duff said.
