Director of Agency Expansion and Public Relations
Michael Cornett is Director of Agency Expansion and Public Relations of the Eastern Kentucky Concentrated Employment Program (EKCEP), Inc. From 2001 to the present, he has held various positions at EKCEP, serving in his current capacity since 2012. Cornett is responsible for working within EKCEP's management team to coordinate regional strategic planning, as well as managing and co-managing several of the organization's tech-centered jobs and economic development initiatives. These initiatives include EKCEP's lead role in the White House's TechHire designation for Eastern Kentucky that is working to bring accelerated and industry-driven Information Technology (IT) and coding training and career opportunities to the region; the Teleworks USA work-from-home jobs service; and the new Selling to the World entrepreneurial mentoring initiative for artisans and small business owners located at "The Palace" in downtown Middlesboro, Kentucky. All initiatives carry the shared goals of greater economic diversity and increased hiring and training opportunities for the citizens served by EKCEP. Cornett also is a member of both the Shaping Our Appalachian Region (SOAR) Education and Retraining Working Group and the SOAR TechHire Action Team. A state and national award-winning public relations and marketing professional and former newspaper reporter and editor, Cornett also directs EKCEP’s external public and media relations activities across the region and beyond.
