H3P: Healthcare Career Pathways in Eastern Kentucky

Step on a path to a rewarding career

Healthcare careers are in demand, especially in nursing, and EKCEP is partnering with regional healthcare organizations, post-secondary education institutions, and training providers to offer opportunities for Eastern Kentuckians to train for and fill open healthcare positions.

If you’re looking for a career in Eastern Kentucky, the new Healthcare Pathways Partnership Program (H3P) can help provide that first step. With H3P, you’ll gain access to a system of support designed specifically to help you succeed and get prepared for a job that could lead to a rewarding career.

How does it work?

With H3P, several options for training and employment are available. The program helps unemployed or under-employed individuals connect with nursing career pathway opportunities. For example, individuals enrolled in H3P can train for and earn certifications for entry-level positions including Certified Nurse Aides (CNA) and Certified Medical Assistants (CMA), or those already working in those positions can enroll in classes for Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) or Registered Nurses (RNs).

H3P enrollees can gain access to financial support that can help alleviate barriers to employment, including assistance to cover a portion of tuition and training costs. You may also be eligible for critical supportive services that can cover the cost of materials needed to successfully complete a training program or begin working. Those materials can include:

  • Clothing for work/training such as scrubs

  • Books/educational materials

  • Transportation costs

  • Childcare costs

Because H3P includes participation from healthcare providers such as Appalachian Regional Healthcare and Pikeville Medical center, participants will be eligible for job placement assistance for immediate healthcare jobs with partner employers. Additionally, if you opt to work for a participating employer while continuing your education/training, your employer will commit to schedule work hours around your continuing education.

H3P is a collaborative that includes the following partners:

  • EKCEP

  • Kentucky Chamber Workforce Center – Talent Pipeline Mgmt. Program

  • Employers: ARH, Highlands Regional Medical Center, Rockcastle Regional Hospital, Mountain Comprehensive, Pikeville Medical Center, Primary Care Centers of East KY, and Juniper Health.

  • Training Providers: University of Pikeville, HCTC, BSCTC, Galen Hazard, and SKCTC.

Whatever the opportunity, H3P will provide a support system to help ensure your best possible chance of successfully navigating a career pathway to a good-paying, high-skilled career without having to leave Eastern Kentucky.

Who’s eligible?

If you live within EKCEP’s 23-county service area, you could be eligible to enroll for H3P-supported training or college courses.

Others eligible for enrollment include those who are:

  • 18 years of age or older.

  • Unemployed or under-employed.

  • Incumbent workers (Individuals who are employed but need training to upgrade their skills to secure full-time employment, increase their skills to remain competitive and advance in their careers, or retain/upskill for their current occupations in H-1B occupations and industries.).

  • Eligible for enrollment in Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) programs.
